    Platten an Promise Fasttrak wird irgendwie nicht richtig erkannt

    Hallo Leutz,
    ich habe das Problem in meiner Kiste die ursprünglich auf WinXP aufgebaut war mehrere Platten zu haben (deren Daten ich auch nicht löschen kann).

    Ich habe Suse 8.0 Prof inst womit soweit auch ok ist und alles funktioniert hat.
    In der Kiste gibts nen HPT Raid Kontroller der einwandfrei funktioniert und eben einen Promise Fasttrak der das unter Suse 8.0 nicht tut.
    Beim hochfahren bastelt er immer an den Platten am Fasttrack rum um diese dann am Schluß als nicht lauffähig zu deklarieren.

    Bevor ich weitermache kurz die Plattenkonfig:

    Ich gehe grundsätzlich davon aus das die Treiber (was bei Suse auch aus den Seiten hervorgeht) noch nachträglich installiert werden müssen, nur weis ich nicht wie.
    Ich habe die Treiber auch schon heruntergeladen nur weis ich jetzt nicht mehr weiter.

    Sorry wenn ich mich noch etwas anstelle, aber ich bin halt eben noch ein Linux Newbie, was sich aber eben ändern soll.

    Kann mir bitte jemand helfen ?

    Poste mal Deine " /etc/fstab"

    Vielleicht ist da ein "mount"-Prob mit NTFS oder so (wegen XP)
    Normalerweise wird der Kontoller (Kernel 2.4.18) unterstützt und wenn am Kernel nicht "gebastelt" wurde ist der Treiber bei Suse als Modull eigentlich vorhanden.
    Bei mir unter Kernel 2.4.16 (SuSE 7.3) läuft der Fast Trak ja auch. Nur die Festplatten werden jeweils einzeln erkannt aber funktionieren.

    die fasttrak-unterstützung ist im kernel von suse mit eingebaut. was sind denn überhaupt die fehlermeldungen?

    Ja jetzt hab ich es geschaft.

    Habe inzwischen festgestellt das es sich doch um einen Fasttrak TX 2 handelt was aber an der Sache nichts ändert.

    Die Platten werden physikalisch erkannt aber irgendwie nicht angesprochen.
    Bei Starten scheint es als ob er sich mit den Platten auf irgendeinen Modus der Kommunikation einigen will, das aber nicht schafft, geschweigen denn die zwei Raid 0 erkennt...............oder sind die das Problem ??????

    sehr merkwürdig.
    Dumme Frage: Ist das ein "On Board" Kontroller? Wenn ja, ist der Richtig gejumpered und wird das vom Mainboeardbios auch erkannt ?
    Dein Kernel scheint für ein Mehrprozessorsystem zu sein (2.4.....-SMP) obwohl das eigentlich nichts ausmachen sollte.
    Ich habe KDE 2.2.2 - dort ist im Kontrollcenter unter -> Information -> PCI der Raidcontroller als erkanntes Gerät eingetragen. Das müßte doch unter KDE 3 doch auch abrufbar sein? Schau da mal nach....

    Nö das ist ein extra Kontroller der unter Windos als Beispiel auch einwandfrei funktioniert, d.h. daran kann es nicht liegen.
    Ich hatte ja auch schon gedacht das es an dem Raid liegt (jeder IDE Kanal ist ein Raid 0 Stripeset), aber das Raid am HPT erkennt er ja auch einwandfrei.................

    Das Raid als solches muß auch nicht unbedingt erkannt werden allerdings müssen die einzelnen Platten sauber laufen.

    Wenn das Teil jetzt erkannt wird weis ich auch nix mehr

    Ja und nein (was heist das nun )

    Unter Available HW zeigt er alle 3 IDE-Controller (Onboard /HPT und Promise) an, aber markiert diese alle mit Hammer und Schraubenschlüssel, nachdem aber Onboard und HPT gehen denke ich das dies ok geht.
    Bei den Festplatten zeigt er alle(auch die, die am Promise hängen) an, jedoch markiert er die 4 Promise-Platten auch wieder mit Hammer und Schraubenschlüssel, die anderen sind ok.

    Unter Blockorientierte Geräte zeigt er die Platten, die am Promise hängen garnicht an.........................................

    Das bedeute ja, daß der Kontroller erkannt wurde. Die Festplatten sind die formatiert? Hast Du mal versucht eine der Platten von der Konsole aus zu mounten ?

    klar sind die Formatiert, genau so woe das andere Raid am HPT und das erkennt Linux auch einwandfrei, das Mounten ist nicht möglich da er diese Platten ja gar nicht anbietet, oder etwa doch ?

    Die Liste der blockorientierten Geräte zeigt nur die Devices die in der fstab eingetragen sind. Die Platten am Promise können da nicht stehen weil die auch nicht in fstab drin sind.
    Also versuch mal in der Konsole als Root:

    mount -t vfat (oder Dein Filsystem) /dev/hdx /mnt

    x=eine der Platen

    Was passiert dann?

    Dann müstest Du im /mnt Verzeichnis Deinen Inhalt der Platte x sehen.
    Denk dran ntfs wird nur zum lesen unterstützt!

    Hab da ein ähnliches Problem, evtl hilft meine Beschreibung ja damit jemand herausfindet was da eigentlich passiert bzw, was nicht stimmt.

    Auch ich habe 3 Controller in meinem Server (OnBoard, und 2x DC-100 (HPT370) bzw 1x DC-100 und einmal TX2 (hab verschiede probiert))

    Verwende Debian Woody 3.0, aber da der fehler so ähnlich auch bei Suse auftritt könnte das evtl helfen den fehler genauer zu identifizieren.

    Auf die ersten 8 IDE geräte kann ich problemlos zugreifen, d.h. hda, hdb ... hdg, hdh funktionieren einwandfrei!
    Aber die nachfolgenden IDE Laufwerke können nicht angesprochen werden obwohl sie einwandfrei beim booten erkannt werden (bezeichnung, cache und sogar vorhandene Partitionen werden erkannt!)
    D.h. hdi und nachfolgende gehen nicht.

    Wenn ich versuche mit cfdisk oder auch fdisk darauf zuzugreifen erhalte ich einen fatal error.
    Bei Eintragung per hand in die fstab bekomme einen entsprechenden boot fehler das die partitionen angeblich kein korektes ext3 dateisystem beschreiben würden oder der superblock hinüber sei. Beides ist aber nicht der Fall, denn wenn ich die controller umstecke, also die boot reihenfolge ändere gehen die platten als hde, hdf ... nur die anderen die vorher gingen dafür nicht mehr.

    Ein Treiberproblem kann es eigentlich fast nicht sein, den egal ob der promise oder der hpt als zweiter controller laufen, die platten gehen nicht wenn sie über hdh hinausgehen.

    Tippe auf ein Kernel Problem da es sich ja bei Debian wie auch unter Suse so verhält wie ich das verstanden habe. Kann ja wohl nicht sein das nicht mehr als 8 IDE devices gehen unter linux oder?

    Verwende selber den Debian Kernel 2.4.18-bf24 nur so zur information.

    Habe die selbe Konfiguration des Servers testweise unter XP installiert.. dort gehen alle platten einwandfrei!

    Hoffe das hilft das jemand dem fehler zu leibe rücken kann, ich bin am ende von meinem anfänger latein ;-)
