    Question XFree4.0.2 + Voodoo3 = 3d Hardwarebeschleunigt, brauch ich die Glide Header?

    Hallo

    Ich hab jetzt mal ne Frage.

    Wenn ich unter XFree4.0.2 für meine Voodoo3
    3d Beschleunigung haben möchte, muß ich dann
    die glide Header beim kompilieren von DRI/XFree miteinbeziehen.

    Ich dachte nämlich das es jetzt auch ohne Glide läuft, also OpenGL bzw. Mesa3d pur.

    Oder gibts für die Voodoo 3 keinen vollständigen Mesa3d Support wenn man die glide header nicht verwendet.


    Müssen bei Voodoo3 Karten die Mesa3d/XFree4.0.2 dri Librarys mit den glide Headern gelinkt sein, damit 3d Beschleunigung überhaupt erst möglich ist?

    Wiso geht 3d Beschleunigung bei Voodoo 3 Karten nicht ohne glide, wiso reicht nicht pures Mesa3d/OpenGL?



    PS:
    Gestern hab ich nämlich XFree4.0.2 auf meinen rechner installiert.
    Alles schien zu funktionieren.
    Das tdfx.o Modul wurde geladen.
    DRI und DRM Unterstützung auch.
    Dann wollte ich die 3d Funkionalität mit der Quake3 Demo testen.

    Ich habe die Q3 Demo einmal mit und einmal ohne Glide Support installiert.

    Wenn ich es ohne Glide support installiert habe lief es unter XFree 4 nur im Software Modus.

    Und wenn ich Q3 mit glide support installierte stürzte es ab bzw. lief gar nicht.

    Wiso ist das so? Wenn das DRI und DRM + Treibermodul geladen ist müßte doch zumindest OpenGL/MesaGL Hardware Beschleunigung möglich sein egal ob das jetzt ne 3dFX Karte oder ATI oder NVidia Karte ist?


    Falls beim kompilieren von XFree4.0.2 die glide header unbedingt miteinbezogen werden müßen, wie kann ich dann bei den Binarys im Nachhinein feststellen ob die include glide header Option beim kompilieren überhaupt miteinbezogen wurde.
    Hab nämlich ein fertiges XFree4.0.2 Slackware-paket installiert, weiß also nicht ob der Author da glide header miteinbezogen hat.
    Wo bekomme ich die neuesten glide header,
    linux.3dfx.com ist nämlich leider tot bzw.
    nicht mehr zu erreichen?


    Zum Schluß noch ne andere Frage was die DRI Module betrifft.
    Muß ich beim Kernelkompilieren (2.2.18) jetzt DRI support installieren oder nicht.
    Für Xfree gibts ja auch solche DRI module?


    Den X-Server lasse ich übrigens im 16 bit Farbtiefe laufen.

    Wenn ich glxinfo starte bekomme ich übrigens die Meldung:

    Außerdem ist mir noch aufgefallen, das im
    usr/X11/lib/modules/dri Verzeichnis die Datei tdfx_dri.so fehlt.

    Die Datei tdfx_drv.o im ../X11/lib/modules/drivers Verzeichnis ist aber vorhanden.

    schlag mich jetzt wenn ich *******e labere, aber der tdfx-treiber ist ab xfree4.0 bereits hardwarebeschleunigt, soviel ich weiss.

    Ok, ich glaub ich weiß jetzt wie es geht, muß es aber erst noch ausprobieren.

    Die Treiberbeschleunigung des tdfx.o Treibers ist glaub nur auf den 2d Teil bezogen.
    Damit 3d Funktioniert muß glaub nämlich die Mesa3d library die bei Xfree 4 jetzt dabei ist vor dem kompilieren von Xfree4 mit den glide header Dateien gelinkt werden.

    Ohne Mesa3d librarys die mit glide gelinkt sind geht glaub 3d beschleunigung nicht mit Voodoo karten.
    Werds aber erstmal testen, wenns funzt dann sag ich es euch.

    wenn Deine distri red-hat ist, bist Du gut dran: ziehe Dir vom rawhide-mirro Deines vertrauens:

    Glide3*src.rpm
    xfree-4.0.2*src.rpm
    Mesa-3.4*src.rpm

    und jage ein
    Code:
    rpm --rebuild --target=ix86-pc-linux-gnu *src.rpm
    darüber...

    dann updatest Du noch die dri-section in Deiner /etc/X11/XF86Config und schon rennt es...

    habe aber als Distri Slackware 7.1

    Dennoch hab ich jetzt ne Frage, wie update ich Xfree 4.0.2 das ja Mesa 3.3 auf Mesa 3.4?

    hi Catonga,

    ich denke, genau da liegt Dein problem: xfree-4.0.2 basiert auf mesa-3.4! deswegen benötigst Du auch genau dieses mesa-paket!

    ich kenne zwar das paket-management von slackware nicht, aber Du solltest in folgender reihenfolge die jeweils (zu gesteren ) aktuellsten pakete installieren:

    Glide-3
    xfree-4.0.2
    Mesa-3.4

    die entsprechenden einträge in der /etc/X11/XF86Config hast Du ja schon gemacht, also sollte es dann ohne problem funktionieren...


    versprich Dir allerdings nicht allzuviel von der performance, da kommst Du mit glide unter xfree-3.3.6 sehr viel besser weg...
    es wurde im cvs ein (stark?) verbesserter tdfx-treiber bereitgestellt -- der wird aber erst mit dem nächsten release offiziell... seit der übernahme durch nvidia siehts nicht mehr rosig aus
