    Arch hängt nach Nvidia-Treibern bei "Started Hostname Service"

    Hallo @ all,

    ich habe aus Interesse Arch installiert, ohne irgendwelche Probleme. Der Lüfter meiner GT440 drehte auf Hochtouren. Deshalb habe ich „nvida“ installiert. Das führt zu einem leisen Lüfter und dazu, daß das System beim Starten bei „[OK] Started Hostname Service“ hängenbleibt.
    Vielleicht weiß jemand Rat.

    klingt danach, als wenn der X nicht starten würde. Gehen die Konsolen noch, kommst Du per ssh auf die Kiste?

    Nuja, wenn jetzt noch relevante Infos kämen, wie zum Bleistift das X-Log, dmesg output, dann könnte Dir vermutlich sogar geholfen werden.

    Die Ausgabe von dmesg hätte ich gern angehängt, aber die ist 68k groß. Ich bekam die Anzeige, daß die maximale Inhaltsgröße 40.000 Zeichen pro Nachricht ist.

    Deine Karte ist zu alt für den nvidia-Treiber. Vielleicht versucht deshalb X.org den freien nouveau-Treiber zu benutzen (das ist ein anderer als nvidia). Du könntest probieren, nvidia zu deinstallieren und stattdessen eine alte Version des nvidia-Treibers zu installieren; den alten scheint's aber nur als AUR-Paket zu geben (https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/nvidia-340xx/). Du musst das Paket also selbst bauen. Googel mal ein bisschen, wie das geht und ruf dann im geklonten repo "makepkg -sric" auf.

    Oder: Du deinstallierst nvidia und versuchst die Sache mit dem nouveau-Treiber zum laufen zu bringen. Aber der wird keine all zu gute 3D-Performance haben. In jedem Fall kannst Du nvidia deinstallieren, denn das bringt Dir nix.

    Wenn Dir das alles zu kompliziert ist, dann steig auf eine halbwegs aktuelle AMD-Grafikkarte um. Deren richtige Treiber sind open source, das ist in der Linux-Welt immer am besten.

    Vielen Dank für die Antwort! Ich bin mir nicht sicher, ob die Karte wirklich zu alt ist - Tumbleweed wie Rawhide kommen mit ihr zurecht - auf eben diesem Rechner. Arch war ja auch nur ein Versuch. Auf diesem PC sind 9 Betriebsysteme physisch (5x Win, 4x Linux) incl. diverse Entwicklungsumgebungen installiert - und innerhalb der OS gibt noch virtuelle Maschinen. Ich werde Arch einfach auf einem anderen PC (ich habe genug davon, auch neuere) probieren.

    Da Du die Treiberversion 390xx per PM ins Spiel gebracht hast - ja, kann natürlich sein, dass die Karte damit auch noch funktioniert. Aber ich hab' auf die schnelle kein Arch-Paket mit dem 390xx Treiber gefunden. Der Treiber im nvidia-Paket hat jedenfalls Version 440xx und das ist zu neu für Deine Karte.

    Des Rätsels Lösung ist, daß der Treiber 390 v132 problemlos mit meiner Karte läuft. Selbst unter Exoten wie KAOS. Nur eben unter Arch nicht. Da läuft zwar der nouveau-Treiber problemlos, allerdings ist das Heulen des Lüfters der Grafikkarte kaum erträglich. Also: alles gut. Nur eben ohne Arch. ;-)
