gentoo: X-Auflösung ändern

Servus zusammen.

Habe gerade das Forum nach meinem Problem durchsucht, einige Sachen probiert, allerdings ohne Erfolg:

Ich habe gentoo + waimea bzw. KDE. Wenn ich am Loginprompt ein "startx" eingebe, bekomme ich eine Auflösung in der Form 400x200 und das ist echt nicht lustig...
Also wollte ich die Auflösung umstellen. Ich habe daher die /etc/X11/XF86Config editiert und hinter "modes" als einzige Auflösung "1024x786" angegeben.
=> Kein erfolg, selbe Auflösung
Dann habe ich wieder die 4 verschiedenen Auflösungen hingeschrieben und versucht per strg alt +/- die Auflösung zu ändern
=> Kein Erfolg
Das komplette Auskommentieren der "modes" brachte
=> Kein Erfolg

Bin ziemlich Ratlos muss ich gestehen und für jede Hilfe dankbar !!

Ps: In meine /var/log/XFree86.0.log ist als einzige Warnung: System lacks support for changing MTRRs (und weil er APM nicht öffnen kann, aber das ist ja normal nicht schlimm)
Ich würde gerne beide Dateien (log und XFConfig) aber der PC ist Netzunabhängig und daher kann ich selbiges leider nicht.

-> Fragt mich bitte nicht nach der Graka, hab den PC geschenkt bekommen (P2 mmx 400, das ist alles was ich von dem Ding weiss ;) ; Windows sagt, es sei eine "SiS 6326"
-> Es ist die /etc/X11/XF86Config
-> würde die Dateien gerne anhängen, aber (das hatte ich versucht in meinem obere letzten Satz zu schreiben) geht nicht, weil der PC Netzunabhängig ist (und meiner kein Diskettenlaufwerk hat).

Wenn Fragen zu Einstellungen sind, bin ich gerne bereit ein paar Zeilen abzutippen, aber plz nicht die ganze Datei ?!

könntest vielleicht mal deine komplette XF86Config posten ? Wäre sehr nett ! Ohne grpahische Oberfläche (und das ist nicht wirklich eine, die ich hier hab) kann ich den PC nämlich vergessen....

so, also ich hab das auch nochmal mit deiner Modeline gemacht @ alex, aber das hat auch nichts gebracht !!

Hat vielleicht noch jemand ne Idee ?? Ich bin ziemlich aufgeschmissen komplett ohne ne graphische Oberfläche auf dem PC !!

anmerkung:

hast du manchmal noch eine XF86Config in deinem home-verzeichnis?
sei es root oder auch im eigentlichen user-home.

diese datei wird vom Xserver bevorzugt anstatt der in /etc geladen, bedeutet, dass die änderungen da für die katz sind.

nochwas: IMHO XF86Config oder XF86Config-4 is egal - XF86Config-4 wird wieder der XF86Config vorgezogen ...

also: ich habe nen Sis Graka drin, also habe ich keine nvidiatreiebr installiert... genaugenommen habe ich keinen speziellen Treiber installiert, weil ich keinen Plan habe (auf meinen "richtigen" Pc hab ich ne GeForce mit Nvidiatreibern), wie man GraKatreiber installiert, die nicht zu nvidia gehören...

Ps: Das mit der XF86config Homeverzeichnis: Da ist KEINE Datei drin (ausser dem Ordner "Desktop")

mein Programm heisst xf86config ! Und dass man da en Treiber auswählen könnte wäre mir neu ... Ich hab jetzt auch nochma den Kernel durchsucht, aber keine GraKa-Treiber gefunden...
