HI
Ich hab mir grad das xfree86 4.3 heruntergeladen und installiert. doch ich kann jetzt xterm nicht mehr starten. und mit der konsole kann ich noch nicht so gut umgehen.
beim starten kommt der fehler:
Can't open display:
=> kde funzt nicht.
kann mir jemand helfen?

leider sagen deine Angaben über dein System und die eine kleine Zeile fehlermeldung nicht sehr viel über deinen fehler aus....

kommt immer, das ist die Standard fehlermeldung die immer druntersteht ;)
und mit der konsole kann ich noch nicht so gut umgehen.
Es ist nie zu Spät es zu lernen :p
Also, erstmal brauchen wir die ganze fehlermeldung, dann kann man mal weiterschauen...
Die XFree log datei liegt in /var/log/XFree86.0.log. Diese kopierst du einfach mal mit cp zukopierendedatei zielverzeichnis auf deine Windows-Platte und postest sie hier. Auf gleichem wege sollte deine XF86Config hier landen (/etc/X11/XF86Config(-4), dann können wir weitersehen.

Es deutet alles darauf hin das deine XF86Config im Bereich "Screen" eine Fehler enthält. Lies einmal aufmerksam man xfree86config und korrigiere die Einstellungen.
Ansonsten könnte Dir dieser Link "http://beyond.linuxfromscratch.org/view/cvs/x/xfree86.html" Aufschluss über eventuelle Fehler beim Installieren von xfree86 geben.
hallo du!
wo hast du denn das xfree430 für suse 8.0 her? auf dem suse-server entdecke ich es nicht? ich vermute mal, du hast die nvidia-treiber für deine gforce -karte verwendet? die musst du dann natuerlich noch einmal installieren, nachdem du x installiert hast.
abgesehen davon gibt es soviele probleme mit den paketen für suse 8.1, dass ich nicht davon ausgehe, dass es besser wird bei einer noch älteren suse-version.
also: dort, wo du die pakete her hast, gab's bestimmt ein fettes readme! wenn nicht: alle pakete deinstallieren und das alte x wieder raufballern, das hilft immer!
