Ich hab das problem, dass ich trotz größerer Anstrengungen Setie@home unter Linux nicht zum laufen bekomme.
Ich vermute jedoch mal sehr stark, dass dies nur an meinem grenzenlosen Unwissen den ich als absoluter linux neuling hab liegt, und nicht an seti oder linux.

Ich hab mir jetz ein linux kompatibles seti heruntergeladen.
In dem Verzeichniss sind jetzt nur ne readme und eine ausführbare? Datei.
In der Readme finde ich leider keine Hilfe.
Jedenfalls hab ich bei der Datei für "Ausführen" eine Berechtigung.
Wenn ich jetzt jedoch auf die Datei klicke, passiert nix!
Wie kann ich seti starten???

Ich weiß das hört sich jetzt für manche extrem simpel und blöd an, aber ich weiß es halt nicht besser und bin für jede Hilfe Dankbar

Connect to SETI@home server via specified SOCKS server and port.
Overrides SOCKS_SERVER.
SOCKS versions 4 and 5 are supported.

-socks_user name
SOCKS user name.

-socks_passwd password
SOCKS password.

-stop_after_process
If a work_unit.sah file is present, process this work unit
and stop after processing is complete, do not return result.
If the client is started with this option, and there is
a completed result.sah file present, the client will first
return the results, then pick up a new work unit, process
to completion, then exit.

-stop_after_xfer
Return results and pick up a new work unit.
This option only functions if the result.sah file is present
and complete indicating that processing is finished for this
work unit. If a work_unit.sah is present, indicating processing
is not complete, no transfer or processing will be performed,
and the client will exit.

-verbose
print a running summary of the work being done.
Starting with the version 2.4 clients, the client is silent
to stdout during processing. There are messages at the start
and finish of processing a work unit, but there are no progress
messages printed during processing unless this option is used.

-nolock
omit the multiple-instance check, which uses file locking
(not available on some NFS systems)

hmmm ich sollte mir vieleicht eine andere seti version runterladen, da bei mir ne andere readme dabei is.

du brauchst auf jeden fall das setiathome-prog, das du bei http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/unix.html findest.
und dann gehst du am besten so vor, wie bei http://seti.linuxforen.de beschrieben - da kannst du eigentlich nix verkehrt machen.

könnte mir mal jemand erklären, warum es in letzter zeit so'nen SETI@home-boom gab? ich versteh irgendwie nicht so ganz, warum die leute so darauf abfahren, ganz abgesehn davon, dass ich in dem ganzen auch nicht wirklich ::den:: sinn sehe....

1. Hast du auch das richtige Paket runtergeladen? Für die deine Rechnerarchitektur? Siehe seti.linuxforen.de
2. Du kannst das Programm nur in der Konsole starten und nicht mit einem Klick im Konqueror. s. Hinweise von red.iceman
3. Wenn du eine GUI haben willst kannst du z.B. "ksetiwatch" benutzen. Falls du Suse hast, ist es auf den CDs.

Habs jetzt am laufen und überwache es mit xseti

hmmm kann ich eigentlich auch net sagen aber da mein PC fast immer läuft und ich unter Windows auch schon fleißig gecruncht hab mach ich halt jetzt unter linux weiter :D
Obs jetzt sin macht oder net is mir egal.
Ich hab wenigstens das Gefühl ich würde mit meinem PC ausnahmsweise mal was nützliches anstellen *lol*

nur so am rande: xseti _frisst_ foermlich meine cpu-leistung, so dass seti selbst deutlich langsamer wird.

ansonsten viel spass beim crunchen... ;-)
