hi
ich habe mir eine Sicherungsplatte mit SATA anschluss geholt um meine ganzen dateien zu sichern.
dazu holte ich bei ebay ein "universalgerät", mit dem man ide, sata, etc.. platten via usb unter linux anschließen kann.
wenn ich z.B. mein usb stick anschließe erkennt mein fc5 das sofort, doch bei der platte passiert nichts. gehn tut die platte 100%!
kann mir jemand dazu helfen?

oh sry, meinte fc8.
habe dmesg vorher und nach dem anschließen ausgeführt, keine veränderungen. da müssten doch am ende neue einträge dann sein, oder?

ich sehe gerade, dass dann ein neues /dev/sdb device auftaucht :-)
leider will es nicht mounten, da es das dateisystem nicht erkennt. um windowskompatibel zu sein, hatte ich fat32 gemacht. wenn ich mit mount -t vfat mounte will, sagt er, er könne den Superblock nicht lesen :-(

kann ich die platte evtll neu formatieren? mit qparted und qtparted klappt es nicht, da die beide die platte gar nicht erst erkennen!

also die platte ist garantiert 100% ok, wenn ich sie direkt via sata anschließe (an einem anderen rechner), klappt das ohne probleme. neuformatieren bringt auch nichts.

weiß linux nicht, wie er mit ner usb platte umgehen soll, die nicht über ide sondern sata angeschlossen ist? vllt denkt er, es wäre ide?

sdb ist normalerweise die ganze Festplatte, die erste Partition darauf ist dann sdb1 (außer du hast die ganze Platte z.b. mit "mkfs /dev/sdb" praktisch ohne Partitionen formatiert). Im Normalfall würde also "mount /dev/sdb /mountpoint" nicht funktionieren.

Poste bitte mal die Ausgabe von "fdisk -l /dev/sdb" (als root ausgeführt), so erhältst du genauere Angaben zur Festplatte.
