Samba geht nicht mehr!!!!! Hilfe!!!!

Hallo,
folgendes Problem.

Ich habe ein Suse 7.2 System mit einem Samba Server 2.2.1. Der Server leif die Letzen Jahre einwandfrei.

Seit einer Woche muss ich den Sambaserver jeden Tag neu starten, dann leif er für den restlichen Tag.

Heute morgen geht gar nichts mehr, der Samba läst sich nicht mehr starten, der Restliche Server Hylafax, Postfix ..... läuft.

Ich bekomme folgende Fehlermeldung:

compaq_p500:/etc/init.d # rcsmb restart
SMB demon not installed ! compaq_p500:/etc/init.d #

Was kann ich tun?????

Als erstes schaut man mal in die Logdateien!
Was steht denn da drin?
Wir könne leider auch nicht hellsehen...

Sagt Dir das irgendwas? Ich würde mal tippen, dass bei irgendeinem Update o.ä. der Samba-Dämon deinstalliert wurde.

Welche sind das, wo finde ich die.

Linux hat so viele, ich bin mir nie sicher welche ich aufrufen muss.

in /var/log/messages steht nichts.

zb. /var/log/daemons/info|warnings|errors und /var/log/samba/smbd.log

Desweiteren was sagt den:
rpm -qa | grep samba

Da fehlt samba-server würde ich mal sagen.

PS:Suse 7.2 , schon mal über nen Update auf was aktuelleres nachgedacht?

ist suse 7.3 Update ist mit neuem PC geplant aber est nächstes Jahr, da ich dann alle Dienste neu aufsetzen muss, Hylafax, Postfix, Apache.......

/etc/init.d/smb start
oder
/etc/init.d/samba start

Ich meinte aber eher samba-server installieren!

Der Sambaserver sollte im Paket Samba enthalten sein...

rpm --info -q samba-2.2.1a-32

um mal zu gucken was das Paket so macht?

Bei mir sieht das jedenfals so aus:
samba-common-3.0.23d-2.3
samba-server-3.0.23d-2.3
samba-client-3.0.23d-2.3

Und mal die Verfügbarkeit in der Paketverwaltung zu prüfen sollte eigentlich nicht das Problem sein.

die logs habe ich doch in 6 beantwortet...

oder braucht ihr mehr, das gesamte log ist sehr lang von 2005, kann ich es auch anders als mit dem vi anschaeunen???

Gibt es bei mir nicht...

Das verzeichnis /var(log/daemons ist nicht vorhanden.

Fakt ist: Samba ist installiert. Bitte

/etc/init.d/smb stop && /etc/init.d/smb start

ausführen. Wenn das nix bringt, bitte mal die smb.conf in Code-Tags hier posten. Und bitte mal die Ausgabe von ps ax |grep smbd hier posten.
