Hallo, Leute.

Ich habe die c't-Version von openSUSE 10.3 per Aktualisierung von 10.1 aufgespielt.

Leider startet SUSE 10.3 jetzt nur im Textmodus - und fragt nach Username und Passwort.

Wie bringe ich openSUSE 10.3 bei, künftig ohne Extra-Aufforderung den KDE-Desktop zu starten (den habe ich im Verlauf der Aktualisierung ausgewählt)?

Es könnte vielleicht sein, dass du im runlevel 3 startest. Gib mal "sudo init 5" ein.
Sollte dies helfen, dann änderst du in der /etc/inittab die Zeile
id:3:initdefault:
in
id:5:initdefault:

Falls da schon "id:5:initdefault:" steht, könnte es sein, dass du im Bootloader grub am Ende des Kernel-Parameters eine 3 stehen hast. Mach die weg.

Die Bootparameter im Grub lassen mich jedoch ratlos. Da steht:

Ist das so OK?

Ich habe den Verdacht, da müsse noch ausdrücklich stehen, dass der grafische Anmelde-Loggin erscheinen muss. Richtig?

Der Anmeldemanager sollte im RL5 eigentlich von alleine gestartet werden.

Poste mal bitte /etc/X11/xorg.conf und /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Nein. Die Einträge müssten ok sein. Ich denke eher, dass Toobles Recht hat, wenn er dich um die /var/log/Xorg.0.log bittet ;)

Gut: Das erster Wort nach dem Bootprompt war der Benutzername "root".

Suse hat das beim Starten offenbar als Bootquelle angesehen, den es hat nach /dev/root gesucht. Nachdem Suse unter /dev/root nicht gefunden hat, was es suchte, fragte es:
Want to fall back to /dev/sda? Y/N
Nachdem ich Y und Enter getippt habe, lief der Start wie berichtet: Im Textmodus mit der Loggin-Aufforderung im Textmodus.

Bootprompt ist auch absoluter Schwachsinn (keine Ahnung, was der Tipp sollte).

Der Bootprompt ist das, was man ganz am Anfang bekommt, um z.B. das zu startende Betriebssystem zu wählen.

Am Bootprompt gibt man eine 3 und dann <Enter> ein, die Kiste bootet in Runlevel 3 (kein X) und dann logt man sich am sog. Loginprompt mit Username und Passwort ein und setzt "startx" ab.

Ich habe die c't-Version von openSUSE 10.3 per Aktualisierung von 10.1 aufgespielt.

Eine Aktualisierung über eine Version hinweg ist jedenfalls keine unterstützte Methode einer Aktualisierung, solche Effekte sind das typische Ergebnis.

Es kann gutgehen, aber oft geht es auch schief, vor allem, wenn viele Drittanbieterpakete (Packman, Guru, .....) installiert sind.

Ja, so ist das vorgesehen: Linux startet in der Textkonsole, ich tippe Username und Passwort, gefolgt von startx ein, und der KDE-Desktop für diesen Benutzer startet.

Das Problem hier ist jedoch, dass Linux selbst dann in der Textkonsole startet, wenn keine 3, wenn gar nichts, und selbst, wenn eine 5 am Bootprompt eingetippt wird.

Ich möchte, dass Suse ohne Extraeinladung ein grafisches Loggin-Fenster anzeigt, den KDE-Desktop startet, und dass ich unter KDE auch von Benutzer zu Benutzer wechseln kann, ohne zwischendurch den Textmodus zu sehen - also so, wie mit openSuse 10.2.


Na, ja, vielleicht rührt das Problem von dem Überspringen einer Version her. Obwohl ich nur wenige fremde Pakete hatte und mir so ein Fehler nur wegen des Auslassens einer Version unangemessen vorkommt, und obwohl andere diesen Versionssprung mit Erfolg gemacht haben, kann ich es nicht ausschließen.

Hilft da nur noch eine Neuinstallation?

In welchem runlevel startest du denn jetzt? Das findest du mit dem Kommando runlevel (als root) heraus.

Wenn es sicher die 5 ist und die 5 unter suse der Standard ist, dann müssten wir im nächsten Schritt prüfen, ob kdm von init.d aufgerufen wird.

Hallo.

Suse startet für gewöhnlich im RL5. Das lese ich aus den Meldungen beim Booten ab, und ich habe es mit dem Kommando runlevel soeben verifiziert. Mit dem RL3 habe ich nur versuchsweise auf Anregung von der richter gestartet.

init.d ist offenbar ein Ordner. Eine Datei kdm enthält er nicht. Hilft diese Info schon weiter? Falls nicht: Wie kann ich herausfinden, ob kdm von init.d aufgerufen wird?

Hängt von der Installation ab. Bei mir ist's kdm.

Wichtig wäre nun, ob es eine Verknüpfung nach /etc/rc5.d hat, die mit S beginnt.

Nur weil Debian es so macht, muß es SuSE nicht genauso machen.

Bei SuSE gibt es diese Datei nie, da das alles über die Optionen in xdm gesteuert wird.

Die Verknüpfung auf xdm sollte allerdings in jedem Fall existieren.

Über Yast gehst Du in "System" - "Editor für sysconfig-Dateien", dort gehst Du auf "Desktop" und im anschließend sich öffnenden Baum in "Displaymanager", dort in der ersten Zeile wieder in Displaymanager. Dort müsste kdm eingetragen sein. Wenn Du etwas anderes willst, schreibst Du es stattdessen dort hinein.

Was mir zu denken gibt, ist das hier: root=/dev/disk/by-id/scsi-Sinitrd.

Kopieren: Unter Yast in "System" gehen, dort in "Konfiguration des Bootloaders", dann im Fenster "Bootloader-Einstellungen" in "Weitere" (unten rechts) gehen, dort auf "Konfigurationsdateien bearbeiten". Unter "Dateiname" auf "boot/grub/menu.lst" gehen. Dann den entsprechenden Eintrag mit der Maus markieren, mit der rechten Maustaste kopieren und hier posten :).

Wenn der Eintrag in der menu.lst falsch wäre, dann würde die Kiste wohl kaum booten, egal in welchen Runlevel.

Er ist maximal unglücklich/falsch zitiert, aber das hat mit dem Problem des TE nicht die Bohne zu tun.

An der Hardware scheint die Plattenaufteilung (300 GB) interessant:
Die erste primäre Partition ist eine WinXP, die zweite ist die erweiterte mit diversen logischen Partitionen:
Erst eine NTFS.
Dann folgen die Partitionen für Linux: erst eine Swap ca. 1 GB
Dann separate partitionen für root, opt, home und usr
schließlich eine FAT32 (ca 2 GB)

Eine zweite 300 GB enthält zwei NTFS-Partitonen, die für Linux nicht relevant sind.

Das Motherboard ist ein Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe

Das ist alles ziemlich uninteressant, aber interessant wären vielleicht folgende Angaben/Ausgaben.

1. Was passiert, wenn nach dem einloggen als root in der Konsole (am besten in Runlevel 5 booten und sich dann in die Konsole schmeissen lassen) folgendes abgesetzt wird?


rcxdm restartIch tippe auf "nix", aber man weiss ja nie.
