Meine Akkulaufzeit unter Debian Etch steht im krassen Gegensatz zu der unter Windows: ca 3 Stunden gegenüber 5 Stunden zu ungunsten von Linux.

Ich habe versucht SpeedStep zu installieren und bin dabei einige Foren und Howtos durch. Die eigentlich klare Theorie scheitert leider in der Praxis bei mir.

Habe einen ganz frisch gebastelten Vanillakernel 2.6.21.1. Auszug aus /usr/src/linux/.config:

cpufreqd läuft, tut aber meiner Meinung nach nichts.
Außerdem exisitert die in Foren und Howtos häufig zitierte Datei "/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_setspeed" oder ähnliche nicht. Die Ordner "/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/" bzw. "/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/" enthalten jeweils nur zwei Ordner namens "cache" und "topologie".

Vielleicht liegt das Problem nur an einer Dummheit von, dass ich z.B. ein Detail übersehen hab, aber ich komme einfach nicht weiter.

Moin. Lade mal auch - falls vorhanden - das Modul speedstep-centrino.
Sollte die CPU nicht runtertakten, kannst Du mit

echo ondemand > /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor
die harte Tour gehen.

Das ist auch die einzige Datei mit dem String "speedstep-centrino" in meinem kompilierten Kernel

Außerdem... als root:

Weil /sys 'nur' ein Pseudodateisystem ist und sich nicht unbedingt den gleichen Regeln unterwirft, wie regulaeres Dateisystem. Im Endeffekt spielt man in /proc und /sys mit System- und Kerneleinstellungen und -variablen.

Aber wie soll ich dann etwas in eine Datei reischreiben, deren Ordner ich nicht einmal erstellen kann?

Ich habe alle möglichen (und unmöglichen) Sachen ausprobiert. Im Prinzip bin ich einen Schritt weiter, aber noch nicht da wo ich hin will: Ich bekomme keine Fehlermeldung mehr wenn ich auf dem Panel ("Add to Panel") das CPU Frequency Scaling Applet starte. Ich habe außerdem Folgendes gemacht:

Als Root:

dpkg-reconfigure gnome-applets

Das gleich Ergebnis habe ich für "cpu1". Und jetzt habe ich tatsächlich die Auswahl zwischen den verschiedenen govenors und Frequenzen wenn ich auf oben genanntes Applet klicke.

Soweit, so gut. Problem ist nur, dass die Einstellungen keine Auswirkungen haben. Meine Akkulaufzeit wird - soweit ich das beobachten kann - garnicht beeinflusst und auch conky zeigt keine Veränderung der Prozessorfrequenz oder -temperatur. Mein Lüfter läuft ständig.
