Moin zusammen!

Ich weiß nicht, ob mein Problem in dieses Forum so gut hereinpasst, aber ich wusste nicht, wo ich es sonst posten sollte.
Seit ein paar Tagen kann ich mich nicht mehr per FTP auf meinen vServer bei S4Y einwählen (OS ist SuSe 9.0). Komischerweise funktioniert aber das WebFTP Interface über Confixx tadellos, was natürlich ein Garant dafür ist, dass der FTP Server funktioniert. Ein Kumpel von mir kann sich auch wunderbar - ohne dieses WebFTP Interface - einwählen. Ich gehe zwar über einen Router ins Internet, jedoch trat das Problem auch auf, als ich mich direkt - ohne den Router - ins Internet eingewählt habe. Was mich allerdings stutzig macht ist, dass ich mich aus der Uni ohne Probleme auf dem FTP Server einloggen kann, ohne dass ich irgendeine Konfiguration an meinem MacBook ändere.
Habt ihr irgendwelche Ideen oder Lösungsvorschläge?

könntest Du das "es geht nicht" evtl. noch etwas konkretisieren? Evtl. mit Fehlermeldungen, Logeinträgen, ...

Oh, tut mir leid, ich bin nicht wirklich fit, was Linux angeht. Sorry for that.
Beim Einloggen auf den FTP Server kommt nach einer knappen Minute folgende Fehlermeldung
421 Service not available, remote server timed out. Connection closed
Was für Logeinträge braucht ihr denn?
Also die xinetd.log sagt
07/5/6@18:51:26: START: ftp from=84.61.24.89
07/5/6@18:55:05: EXIT: ftp status=0 duration=219(sec)
Leider habe ich in /var/log/ keine Log-Datei gefunden, die irgendwas mit FTP oder ProFTP zu tun hat.

von hier aus gehts auch nicht:

ftp 84.61.24.89
ftp: connect: Connection refused

kann es vllt sein daß dein FTP-Server nur auf localhost lauscht?

gib mal als root auf der Kommandozeile

netstat -ntl
ein und poste mal das Ergebnis
PS: weitere Infos wären auch gut: welcher FTP-Server (ProFTP, VSFTP, etc)
Konfigurationsdatei davon...

mir ist grad aufgefallen, hab vorhin versucht ne Verbindung zu dir herzustellen, nicht zu deinem Server
würdest du den Hostnamen posten könnt ichs versuchen

PS: so sieht meine proftpd konfig aus:

a pro pos, wie sieht deine /etc/xinet.d/wieauchimmerdeinedateiheisst
da wo das proftp zeugs drin steht
besonders die bind zeile interessiert dabei
