Hallo Leute,

Schaut selber-> http://yammi.sourceforge.net/

Hi,

in the last 4 weeks I tried to integrate fuzzyness into the existing filters
(collection and playlist filter) but now I finally give up... :-(

I have it working more or less for the flat view now, but I had to realize
that the existing filters with their powerful query possibilities (AND, OR,
exclude, score:>60, title:bla, ...) combined with the different places to use
them (tree view in different group by modes, flat view with different visible
columns, playlist) cannot be easily merged with the idea of a simple and
self-explanatory fuzzy search as I had in mind.

Due to the flexibility of the current filter mechanism the implementation so
far was harder than expected, I also experienced grave performance problems
(such as a fuzzy filter taking 60 seconds), and what comes out is not the
easy and quick fuzzy search...

I documented a bit more in the wiki on this page (or rather on the two pages
that are linked here):

http://amarok.kde.org/amarokwiki/index.php/Proposal_for_a_new_search_interface

My personal consequence from this attempt would be to add fuzzy search as a
distinct, self-explanatory feature (as envisaged in my first attempt)...
- which will probably not be finished for version 1.4
- which brings back the central question of where to integrate it (see the
wiki page with the discussion of the different possibilities - I updated it)

...and leave the existing filters as they are (because they sometimes serve a
different use case than what the fuzzy search primary use case is).

Any feedback or inspirations appreciated, I will try to be in IRC for
discussion...

Oliver

P.S.
The only thing that might be worth committing is a refactoring I did first: I
extracted the code for the google filter which was in part duplicated for the
playlist and collection into a separete class "GoogleFilter"... (making the
code a bit more DRY...)

Hi!

Schade.....
