Habe einen User per
adduser web01 angelegt

Das system ist Debian 3.0, installiert mit apt-get.

Ja, du hast nirgends ein Verzeichnis freigegeben.
Mit

DefaultRoot ~
können sich die User in ihr Home-Verzeichnis einloggen.

das problem besteht weiterhin...
der user web01 kann sich nicht einloggen!

der fehler "no certifactes found" brauchte mich nicht weiter zu interessieren, richtig!?

Ist das die genaue Fehlermeldung oder kommt noch was anderes?

das ist die (einzige)meldung die kommt, wenn ich per
/etc/inti.d/proftpd restart den server restarte

Wenn der User keine login-shell hat meckert proftpd wenn er nicht "RequireValidShell off" in der Konfiguration hat.

das hat geholfen, danke

wir mir scheint hatte ich früher immer eine shell für die user gelassen, da ich RequireValidShell off frühernicht verwandt habe ...
