Moin,

hab Debian 3.0r1 mit nem 2.4.20er Kernel und hab X duch debconf konfiguriert. Nun kommt nach "startx" aber "No screens defined" oder irgendwas von wegen, dass keiner der Screens nutzbar wäre....
Graka is ne S3 Trio64 und Bildschirm isn Belinea 107020

xf86conf hab ich auch schon probiert, selbes Problem. Und xf86cfg funzt gar nich.

Wie geht dat denn noch?

moment welche config jetzt? die /etc/X11/XF86Config oder welche???
was sind denn bitte framebuffer und wie stell ich die aus?

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 <wird die hier sein

versuche es halt mit " dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86 " dann kannst du normaler weise den monitor reinstellen und den kernel buffer umstellen , musst aber SU sein sonst kanst du nicht ausführen, am besten in der console ;)

hmmm ne momentmal die XF86Config-4 is doch nur für madrake und red hat... und den kram mit reconfigure hab ich auch schon gemacht...
er sagt, dass die eingegeben screens nicht richtig seien. Ich habs dann ma nachgeguckt und die graka stimmt auf jedenfall. Für den Monitor hab ich einfach Werte in dem BEreich angegeben, den der bestimmt kann.
Der einzige Punkt wo ich mir unsicher bin, ist der Grafikspeicher der Graka. Ich hab nämlich keinen Schimmer wieviel auf ner S3 Trio64 drauf is.

Was für eine distrie fähsrt denn du überhaupt ? also ich hab bei meinem debian das über XF86Config-4 , wahrscheinlich hat deine karte 64 mb , du musst dann ( so hab ich es bei mir gemacht ) 64 x 1024 = xxxxx rechnen, aussder kannst du ja mit dp....reconfig...... bei der monitor auswahl "simpel" wählen, ist bissel einfacher,

Trio64 ist ja nur der Chip. Da kann natürlich unterschiedlich viel Speicher drauf sein, ist ja bei aktuellen Karten genauso.

Poste mal /var/log/XFree*.log

@ z0r6z also dass das ding 64Mb GRafikspeicher hat glaube ich kaum, das isn oller Schulrechner... ich schätze mal eher dass das ding höchstens 16MB hat. Und Distri hab ich, wie schon oben geschrieben Debian 3.0r1 nur steht im Kofler, dass die XF86Config-4 nur für Mandrake und Red Hat ist

@ taylor die Kiste steht leider in der Schule, die ist zwar wiederum genau gegenüber doch glaube ich nicht, dass ich da vor Montag noch rankomme

schon einen anderen Treiber ausser "vga" probiert ?

hmmm tjoa eigentlich is das echt was wenig.... hatte auch mehr angegeben

ne in dei manpage dazu hab ich noch nich reingeguckt, weil ich nich wisste wie die heisst.

Eine Trio64 hat afaik 2-4MB Speicher.
Mehr wird afaik garnicht vom Chip unterstützt.
