xserver startet nicht

Hi
ich bekomme x bei gentoo nicht zu laufen.

ich habe die XF86co~1 von meiner alten Suse 8 version gesichert
und nach /etc/X11 kopiert
dann habe ich Displaymanager=gdm in /etc/rc.con aktiviert.

und dann rc-update add xdm default

und dann gebootet.

FM:
Unable to locate/open configfile
Error from xf86Handleconfigfile

no screens found


was soll ich machen?

fehlt vielleicht noch was, was ich noch installieren muss?

Welche Rechte hat die conf-file?
Der Name ist auch XF86Config-4 und das verzeichnis /etc/X11 ja?

ich habe mal emerge nvidia-kernel, was auch ging
und emerge nvidia-glx ,das ging nicht

dann habe ich mal xf86config ausgeführt das ging auch nicht danach und dann habe ich wieder die alte config kopiert.

jetzt bekomme ich immer die Fehlermeldung das die Config falsch konfiguriert ist.

wie bekomme ich das hin?

Der X Server liest /etc/X11/XF86Config und versucht den generischen VGA Treiber zu laden. Bist Du Dir sicher, dass Du die richtige Konfigurationsdatei editiert hast? Als Anmerkung nebenbei, die Konfigurationsdatei, die Du angegeben hast, wird nur mit der Farbtiefe 16 funktionieren, das solltest Du wahrscheinlich auf 24 erweitern.

Nein, der Hinweis war auch nur als solcher für den Zeitpunkt bestimmt, an dem Du den X Server richtig konfiguriert hast, und dieser ergo funktioniert. Der wichtige Punkt war der, dass das derzeit offenbar nicht der Fall ist, da das VGA Treibermodul geladen wird, und nicht NVIDIAs. Stelle sicher, dass Du die richtige (s.o.) Konfigurationsdatei editierst.

Du hast dahingehend keine klare Aussage gemacht; es ist aber ganz offensichtlich, dass nicht die richtige Konfigurationsdatei benutzt wird, bzw. Du nicht die richtige editiert hast. Um es noch einmal klarzustellen: der X Server lädt auf Deinem System /etc/X11/XF86Config((==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config"), und nicht /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, /etc/X11/XF86co~1 oder /etc/X11/xf86config.

wenn ich den gesicherten File von diskette unter LInux öffne heißt er xf86c~1.
und unter windows heist es xf86config! also da ist es richtig.

Falls Du die Datei einfach 1:1 von einem DOS 8.3 Dateisystem kopiert hast, so ist sie bestimmt nicht richtig in /etc/X11 angekommen. Du kannst die Datei mit 'mv' umbenennen, z.B.:

# cd /etc/X11
# mv XF86Config XF86Config.save
# mv xf86c~1 XF86Config

Ja, es ist wichtig, dass XF86Config genauso geschrieben wird, Gross/Kleinschreibung ist wichtig. Falls Du Dir sicher bist, jetzt die richtige Konfigurationsdatei in /etc/X11/XF86Config zu haben, dann versuche den Server erneut zu starten und schicke uns ggf. die neue Logdatei.

Jetzt findet der X Server überhaupt keine Konfigurationsdatei; wie sieht denn /etc/X11 bei Dir aus (ls -l /etc/X11)?

So wie's aussieht, hast du die Config-Datei immer noch nicht am richtigen Platz...
tippe mal
ls /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
ein, dann sollte
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
angezeigt werden....

Wahrscheinlich wird bei dir aber
ls: /etc/X11/XF86Config-4: No such file or directory
angezeigt....

Also stelle sicher, dass die Datei
/etc/X11/XF86Config-4
existiert und lege vorsichtshalber nen symbolischen Link auf sie...
ln -s /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config

Achte ausserdem darauf, dass das Modul "DRI" nicht !! geladen wird....

/etc/X11/XF86Config-4 wird zuerst geladen, falls diese Datei existiert; falls nicht lädt der Server automatisch /etc/X11/XF86Config, die eigentliche Standardkonfigurationsdatei. XF86Config-4 existiert lediglich, um es Distributionen zu ermöglichen, in der Übergangsphase von XFree86 3.x auf 4.x beide Server installieren und getrennt konfigurieren zu können. Der Symlink von XF86Config-4 auf XF86Config ist also überflüssig.

Das DRI Modul kann ruhig geladen werden, es richted ebenso wie das Mesa GLcore Modul keinen Schaden an (auch wenn es nicht unbedingt Sinn macht diese Module zu laden). Probleme gibt es lediglich, wenn das MESA GLX Modul noch installiert ist, das sollten die NVIDIA Installationsroutienen allerdings zu verhindern wissen.

XF86config != XF86Config; laut Logdatei findet der Server auf Deinem System keine der Konfigurationsdateien in seinem Suchpfad, die da sind:

/etc/XF86Config
/usr/X11R6/etc/XF86Config
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/XF86Config

Bitte gib doch einfach mal den Inhalt von /etc/X11 an, damit wir dir präziser weiterhelfen können!
